Our worth and our belonging are not negotiated with other people

I read this quote by Brené Brown.

“Our worth and our belonging are not negotiated with other people. We carry that inside of our hearts. I know who I am, I am clear about that, I will not negotiate that with you” I don't consider myself particularly insecure, but reading these words made me think how confident am I to say that “I know who I am, and I am clear about that” I realized that I am not at all confident in answering this, and the more I thought about it (myself and people in my life) it became apparent to me that everyone is going through life seeking themselves. Through early school years, studies, work we do, the things that spark our passion, traveling the world, making friends and committing to relationships. It’s like a subtle but somewhat irritating thing that’s there, isn’t it ? And the more life presents to you, the more clear it might become who you are, without negotiating. When do we step into that deep-rooted confidence? I certainly have not arrived there yet. Big life lessons, people, experiences they are all just colors filling our blank spaces, Let’s not hide behind a surface-level confidence, rather let us swim in the deep unknown waters to discover more. First, ask yourself “Do I know who I am, and and am I clear about that” ? And, if needed, forgive yourself and others for being confused, for being unsettled, for continuously looking. Acknowledge that it’s a process that might take a whole life-time.
